Salli Squitieri and Gabriel Butterfield have opened a unique business and have already established late night shopping hours for their Eclectic store and soon to be music roadhouse in the rural community of Sopchoppy Florida in Wakulla County.
Sopchoppy is the perfect location Ms Squitieri notes. Stating that the region is very diverse with rivers and creeks, a variety of types of forests with a wonderful offering of ecotourism activities such as camping, hunting, canoeing, hiking trails, bird watching, and scenic drives, as well as being relatively close to the white sandy beaches of the gulf coast shorelines and close to cultural activities in Tallahassee.
A Leap of Faith
In a leap of faith Salli and Gabriel established their business in a 100 year old historical building in the heart of the warm and friendly village (rural community) of Sopchoppy comprised of a diverse collective of artists and musicians, a community that even many people born and raised in the Florida Panhandle know little of.
Based on fond childhood memories of the Florida Panhandle, diverse in her skills as an events coordinator, promoter, writer, artist and herbalist-- Salli Squitieri and her husband Gabriel Butterfield--a talented and achieved musician and skilled carpenter, recently have relocated to the Sopchoppy region.
Sopchoppy:
The community of Sopchoppy is approximately 30 minutes from the Capital of Tallahassee, about 14 miles from Crawfordville and about 30 minutes from its sister community of Apalachicola.
Salli and Gabriel were drawn to the richness of the community where young and old seem to connect and everyone lends a helping hand.
Salli and Gabriel say they are proud to be part of the community, a little oasis, which now houses their Shop “The Frog and The Hummingbird Co & Butterfield’s Roadhouse”, “The Backwood Bistro”—a gourmet style restaurant also offering music events, “Opossum Tracks Recording Studio” owned by Susan and Snori Solburg, “Posh”—another charming & eclectic shop offering Fair trade products, art, healing products and even massages, “Sisters”—an enticing antique and collectible store, the IGA Grocery store-a family owned and operated business, a southern style Restaurant & Bakery “Scratch Cakes”, the local “Sopchoppy Hardware Store” offering everything from basic neds to gift items, Sally’s Restaurant, The Senior Citizen’s Thrift Store where one can always find a little treasure at a great price, TLC Baby Store, George Griffin Pottery Studio, From the Heart Recording Studio, Lou’s Bait and Tackle Shop, Gas stations, an Acupuncturist and also a Massage therapist and so much more…
Sopchoppy makes a perfect day trip for a scenic drive, shopping, hiking, camping and offers a beautiful town park set right on the Sopchoppy River where one can swim, picnic, walk the wooden bridge over the Sopchoppy River, camp and simply relax .
Salli and Gabriel have been warmly welcomed into the community and are diligently working towards their vision for their Store/Gallery and soon to be Music Venue. The business is called “The Frog and The Hummingbird Company and Butterfield’s Roadhouse.”
They made a soft opening on July fourth, but state that they are nowhere near where they want to be with the business, however are evolving quickly and have many surprises on the horizon for everyone.
Salli says they will be supporting many local artists by providing a forum to exhibit their work on a consignment basis and present feature showings for the artists with appetizers, free door prize drawings and more. Likewise they will be carrying national and international arts and crafts.

Salli has been involved with the practice of Herbology since the age of 12 and has been carrying on the traditional folk arts incorporating the uses of herbs, spices and varied plants. Salli and Gabriel will be carrying a line of Salli’s handmade herbal crafts as well as Assorted Herbs & Spices, Teas from Around the World, Caribbean Spices, Tropical Cocoa Blends, Spice Ropes. Gabriel Butterfield--son of Paul Butterfield
Gabriel, born into the Blues is the son of the late Paul Butterfield who is world-wide renowned as the legendary blues harmonica player that was pinnacle in the blues revival of the sixties. The Paul Butterfield Blues Band was one of the first integrated bands, helping to bring a predominantly considered black style of music into white homes, increasing the popularity of this style of music; likewise, merging blues and even folk music into a blues rock. Paul Butterfield and his band (The Paul Butterfield Blues Band) backed Bob Dylan in the controversial performance at the Newport Festival in 1965 when Bob Dylan “plugged in” and folk purists hit the ceiling. Paul Butterfield had an incredible impact on music history making and made it possible for many of our famed present day performers to be where they are today.
He brought further acclaim to Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf, and as well as many of the recognized musicians that are common household names today, some that emerged from Paul Butterfield’s bands.
Paul forged the ways for others to follow, bridging the gap between age, race and cultures and created forums for performers that previously did not exist. He enhanced and developed young performer’s careers and obtained a pay for these performers that they could not acquire elsewhere.
He touched the souls of many and to this day his unique style and technique continues to influences musicians. His contributions were many and his legacy is one that should be carried on forever.

PBFS strives to assist struggling artists with emergency relief, project support & cultural enrichment, particularly those creative endeavors with focus on projects dedicated to underprivileged & at risk children. We are a relatively new, developing and quickly evolving multi-media entity gaining worldwide recognition and interest within a very short time.
PBFS is currently working on a series of ongoing projects including our Signature Project—“The PBFS Special Care Package for Struggling Artists”, our PBFS Educational Archival Exhibit representing segments of Paul Butterfield’s life and career, a networking & resource site for artists of all genres, the first time ever done film documentary on Paul Butterfield, an online petition for Paul Butterfield’s recognition into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a Music project dedicated to the enhancement of performing artists careers & fundraising for PBFS & its many causes & endeavors, the development of a CD Library for Youth introducing youth to a broad spectrum of musical styles while in a safe and nurturing environment, Musical Instruments & Basic Musical Needs for Underprivileged Musicians & Impoverished Youth, PBFS assistance in whatever capacity possible for assorted benefits & fundraisers and an assortment of other projects.

Salli and Gabriel will be presenting the start of their Film Documentary which is a project comprised of a team collaboration to produce the first time ever done film documentary of the Legendary Bluesman & worldwide renowned harmonica player—Paul Butterfield (Gabriel’s Father).
The Film Documentary is with intent to preserve the legacy of a bluesman who changed the course of music history & made it possible for many musicians to be where they are today. It is our hope to bring forth this legacy and the music of Paul Butterfield to a new generation & to tell the story of a man & his musical journey.

Beginning December they will be holding Blues Jams every second and fourth Thursday of the month and Acoustic Jams every second and fourth Friday of each month.
Gabriel Butterfield despite holding his father’s famed name has achieved his own musical accomplishments and is continually involved with varied music endeavors and projects and has helped orchestrate many benefits for some great causes.
Started in 1993, The Gabriel Butterfield Sunday Night Woodstock Blues Jam" at "The Joyous Lake" in Woodstock NY. It became an immediate success and was rapidly known as one of the largest hot spot events in the area. Woodstock, was known for its many Recording Studios which brought in a vast amount of name performers who soon sought out Gabriel's Blues Jam, likewise luring the extensive collective talent pool and esteemed local Woodstock musicians.
It is Gabriel and Salli’s hope that area musicians will come and visit and join them in their effort helping to create a similar Jam session for the area.
The Paul Butterfield Fund and Society Educational Archival Exhibit is one of our signature projects Gabriel states. The exhibit represents segments of Paul Butterfield’s life & career, which currently includes memorabilia--posters, handbills, tickets, art work etc, photographs, music, videos and personal artifacts of Paul's; likewise representing the arts & artists of that era.
The PBFS Educational Archival Exhibit was unveiled as part of a three day multi-media extravaganza on Dec 17th, 2004 at the Key West Hard Rock Cafe on Paul's birthday--a day when radio stations nationwide joined in memory of Paul & support of PBFS, by playing Paul Butterfield’s music throughout the day.
This collection continues to grow & they hope to have it on the road at various special events in the very near future. A segment of the Exhibit is permanently displayed at Butterfield’s Roadhouse.

Gabriel is currently working towards a music project which will be incorporating some members of his father’s band, as well as upcoming musicians and a line up of quite few stellar performers.
Gabriel Butterfield’s Blues Sessions -The Painted Blues is intended to enhance the musical careers of all involved merging local, national & renowned talents (Musicians are already in place, eager & waiting)
While carrying on the rich traditions of the Blues Styles of music, integrating other styles & bringing this forth to a new generation, providing cultural enrichment to communities & children's endeavors and enhancing public awareness of PBFS.
Additionally Gabriel an east and west coast performer is a freelance drummer and singer and often engaged in a variety of musical activities. They will be laying tracks and doing recordings in Detroit with a variety of stellar performers as well as some members of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.

Gabriel Butterfield’s Blues Sessions -The Painted Blues is intended to enhance the musical careers of all involved merging local, national & renowned talents (Musicians are already in place, eager & waiting)
While carrying on the rich traditions of the Blues Styles of music, integrating other styles & bringing this forth to a new generation, providing cultural enrichment to communities & children's endeavors and enhancing public awareness of PBFS.
Additionally Gabriel an east and west coast performer is a freelance drummer and singer and often engaged in a variety of musical activities. They will be laying tracks and doing recordings in Detroit with a variety of stellar performers as well as some members of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.

This will be a great attraction for Sopchoppy--a forum for Music events, Jams, a place for local musicians, upcoming musicians, and renowned musicians…
Salli and Gabriel said they are open to ideas and if folks have a special event or idea to talk with them about it and maybe their establishment can host it… The space is a 30 x 30 foot area with 12 foot high ceilings with a real warm feeling to it.
